Zero McKenna Celtic Talks as Bellamy Commits to Wales

Both have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on the start of the week.

The Manager's Stance on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss described the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy twelfth place in the Championship.

"I have not had such discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish young player said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I possess a unique job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my awareness."

Context and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely all people has to go around and announce what they were, but naturally it's a really big sports organization."

The coach signed a new four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Welsh striker is inclined to complete the current World Cup qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of making those, due to a successful European competition campaign, even if they fail to end up Group J runners-up.

Considering his present stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
