The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle corruption within the police force.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.

However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."

He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.

The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
