Six Individuals Detained Following 12 Million Euro Armed Raid on Gold Processing Laboratory in the French Republic
A team of six suspects equipped with assault rifles and handguns employed explosives to force entry into a gold treatment facility located in Lyon, slightly injuring five employees during what appears to be the latest high-profile daylight theft to occur in the country.
The daring raid took place on Thursday afternoon, with police forces rapidly detaining the suspected perpetrators and recovering the stolen goods estimated to be worth 12 million euros (10.5 million pounds), according to officials.
Five staff members of Laboratoires Pourquery received light wounds as a result of the detonation, and three individuals were transported to hospital for assessment, officials confirmed. A total of twenty-eight staff were present on-site when the perpetrators raided.
The individuals, thought to be career criminals, were detained soon afterwards in the nearby town of Vénissieux, France, authorities revealed.
A woman involved who took part in the heist was also apprehended, according to law enforcement.
“Six people who employed explosive devices in a raid against a precious metals company in the Lyon area were arrested at the scene,” the nation's interior minister stated online, praising officers for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.
Assault rifles, handguns and explosives were recovered as well.
The robbery occurred as French police on that Thursday arrested five more suspects, including a primary suspect, in connection with the recent audacious Louvre museum robbery.
Many investigative personnel have been hunting four robbers who used a vehicle featuring an elevating platform and cutting gear to breach a first-floor gallery at the renowned museum on the nineteenth of October, making off with ornaments assessed at around €88 million.
In a different significant robbery, burglars recently broke into the French capital's Natural History Museum, making off with gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A young Chinese female was taken into custody recently in Barcelona, Spain in connection with the break-in, officials confirmed.
The string of thefts has sparked worry in the country regarding insufficient protection at museums and various establishments containing precious artifacts.
