Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Substantial Control Tower IT Issue

An IT issue at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the hub.

Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, considerable delays are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the current status on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers should still plan to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
