A wheel comes loose from the McLaren of Lando Norris after he collided with team-mate Piastri at the opening of the United States Grand Prix sprint event.
McLaren Formula 1 leaders Zak Brown and Stella attributed rival drivers for the crash between Piastri and Lando Norris at the start of the US GP sprint race.
Piastri, ahead of Norris in the championship by twenty-two points, made contact with his team-mate after colliding with the Nico Hulkenberg.
The incident eliminated both McLaren drivers out of the event, along with Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, who was on the inner side of the Sauber driver.
Brown, the team's chief executive officer, stated to Sky Sports that some of the driving at the start was "inexperienced", adding: "Obviously Hulkenberg drove into Piastri and he had no business being where he was."
The team team principal Stella added: "Our feeling is that we are disappointed that we were denied the opportunity to race."
"It's surprising that some racers with a lot of experience don't act with appropriate caution. Go to the first corner, ensure you don't damage other drivers and continue."
The team suggested that Stella was mentioning both Hulkenberg and the Aston Martin driver.
However, 1996 world champion Damon Hill, providing analysis for a sports broadcast, said he thought the Australian had not shown enough awareness of the dangers of the first corner of an Formula 1 event when he chose to cut back to try to pass his teammate.
The Australian had a better start than Norris and at first challenged on the outer side on the uphill entry to the corner.
However he then cut back in an effort to get a advantage on his teammate on the exit, only to make contact with Hulkenberg.
The McLaren driver said: "Not ideal but I haven't seen what occurred, I attempted to move inside on Lando and we were both quite distant from the corner apex and then were struck and it sent me into Norris. A shame."
His teammate commented: "I just was struck, right? I was not at fault. Further back events unfolded and I just was unfortunate and was struck because of it. I don't know. I need to look a bit more carefully. It's more people behind just being a bit careless and we are the result of that."
The Aston Martin driver said: "At one point I thought I was in the right place on the inside, but some cars came very fast from the outer side switching back and then I was there in the center."
Hulkenberg, who had earned a best qualifying fourth place, said: "Big frustrations. All the good work from the previous day in the trash. Just chaotic."
"Piastri steered inward pretty forcefully trying to get the inside line and way out of the first corner but I cannot vanish."
"I had Alonso challenge on the inner side and I was unable to see him any more. I wanted to provide room for him and then Piastri steered inward and the collision was inevitable."
The team will review the crash with their racers but only after the race weekend. Both cars needed significant repairs before qualifying session at 10 PM BST on Saturday.
The team principal said: "Overall displeased but we take it on the chin, we are now concentrating on fixing the vehicles, there is a lot to do and then we will resume the weekend from there."
"Our team holds a competitive place from our performance point of view so I trust we have the possibility to race, race normally and capitalise on our capabilities."
"The points are the key thing, I don't want to talk about bad intentions, just caution. A little more prudence would be good for everyone."
The sprint event was won by Red Bull's Verstappen, who gained ground on both team racers in the championship - he is now fifty-five points behind Piastri and 33 behind of Norris.
The team boss said: "The consequence is what the maths says - we missed out on eight championship points with both racers, but we focus on ourselves. We have a very competitive car and two skilled drivers. We look forward to just some standard competition."
The Red Bull driver said he was approaching the championship one event at a time.
