The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
