Diane Ladd, Celebrated For Her Role in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Has Died at Age 89.

This Oscar-nominated actor Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran left us aged 89.

The actor, with credits spanned Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, left this world in her residence in Ojai, California. This announcement was announced in a statement by her child, Oscar-winning actor Laura Dern.

Her daughter, who performed alongside her mom in various films such as Wild at Heart and Rambling Rose, called her “my amazing hero and my special gift of a mother”, noting that she was at her bedside during her final moments.

“She was the greatest mother, daughter, grandmother, performer, creative along with compassionate soul that only dreams could have seemingly created,” she wrote. “We were fortunate to know her. She is now with the angels.”

Beginnings and Rise to Fame

The start of her career included small roles in TV shows including Gunsmoke while that decade had her appearing with the legendary Jack Nicholson in the classic Chinatown.

That very year, the year 1974, she shared the screen with Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s acclaimed dramatic comedy Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her acting earned Ladd her first Oscar nomination in the supporting actress category.

1980s and Beyond

Throughout the 1980s, she starred in crime thriller the movie Black Widow plus comedy sequel Christmas Vacation and appeared on Alice, a comedy program inspired by her earlier movie.

During the next ten years, she was given another best supporting actress Academy Award nomination for her part in the David Lynch film the movie Wild at Heart where she acted as the mother of her biological child Laura Dern’s role. The next year she was awarded a further nomination for her role in the film Rambling Rose which also starred Dern.

“This movie which Princess Diana picked as her top choice, and she brought us to the UK for a royal premiere and a party for us,” Ladd said of Rambling Rose. “She sat with us, grasping our hands, and crying, seeing us act.”

The nineties also saw roles in humorous films Cemetery Club reuniting her with Burstyn, the movie Primary Colors, a comedy about politics, with John Travolta and Alexander Payne’s the movie Citizen Ruth where she played the mother of Dern once more. The decade also earned her Emmy nominations for work in the series Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, the show Grace Under Fire and Touched by an Angel, a drama.

Partnerships with Her Daughter

She continued to star with Laura Dern in films blending humor and drama Daddy and Them, the David Lynch project the movie Inland Empire and White’s comedy-drama series Enlightened. She additionally starred with Sandra Bullock in 28 Days, a movie, Anthony Hopkins, a legend in that movie plus Jennifer Lawrence in Joy, a biographical drama.

Her more recent television parts included Ray Donovan, a drama and Young Sheldon.

Filmmaking Ventures

Ladd also wrote and oversaw the humorous movie Mrs Munck, a film which starred Diane Ladd and previous spouse Bruce Dern, an actor. “Bruce is a talented star,” she said. “I was honored to direct him in a film. Personal Life

She was additionally the third cousin of the great Tennessee Williams, whom she described as “a major inspiration throughout my life”.

During 2018, she received an incorrect diagnosis with a respiratory illness and advised she only had half a year left but made a full recovery after her daughter moved her to another medical facility.
