Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
