The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
